Sculpture Lessons

Carve Soapstone

Learn to carve soapstone, alabaster and wood into useful and artistic objects. Learn to shape, braze and weld metal into beautiful works of art. Learn to use hand tools and light power tools safely and easily.

Make useful wooden items

What you learn to do us up to you. Every student begins by making something simple. You could choose to make a soapstone starfish or bear, a copper fish or moon or a wooden cutting board or spatula. I'll make a few suggestions, show you some examples and do some simple demonstrations to show how an item is made and how the material is worked. You decide what material you are going to work with and what your project is going to be.

Shape metal into useful works of art

I only teach one or two people at a time (I have a small studio) so you get all the attention you need to learn the the required skills. All tools are supplied, although you are encouraged to bring your own hand tools if you have them. All material is supplied for smaller projects. I have some material on hand for larger projects and I can recommend places to get material if needed. The schedule is up to you, we can work out a time between us. The cost for private or semi-private lessons is $20/hour/person for wood and stone carving, $23/hour/person for metal work, and I recommend at least 3-5 hours/day. As many days as you need until you are satisfied with your skill level. Most people will be able to complete a small project in the first 3-5 hour day.
